Users’ Rights Week

From September 21 to 27, 2020, Users' Rights Week will take place throughout Quebec. The Users and Residents committees of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal are taking advantage of this event to launch a multilingual information tool on users' rights.

Theaim of this material is to make users and their families aware of their rights in health and social services. Since the population served by the CIUSSS is among the most linguistically diverse in the healthcare network, the information tool will make it possible to reach in their mother tongue a population that might otherwise not have access to this kind of information. And when people are not aware of their rights, it can be difficult to exercise them.

The material is available in the form of a poster and a bookmark in 25 languages, including Tagalog, Mandarin, Urdu and Hebrew. The Users’ Committees invite CIUSSS staff members and community organizations of the territory to order this material free of charge to raise awareness among users. All long-term care facility (CHSLD) residents will receive this material through their resident committees. The project is an initiative of the Cavendish Users' Committee in collaboration with the  users and residents committees across CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.

Users' Rights Week also aims to highlight the contribution of these committees as the voice for users andrepresentatives of their collective interests. "The committees are made up of volunteer citizens who care about the quality of services, the well-being of users and the respect of their rights. Their invaluable commitment has a real impact on the continuous improvement of care services. It is an added value on a daily basis, particularly in these times of health crisis. By listening, assisting and taking action, they can make all the difference for users and their loved ones,"says Lucio D'Intino, President of the Central Users' Committee of the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.
