Our CIUSSS is celebrating Earth Day through action on April 22 and every day

First observed in the United States on April 22, 1970, Earth Day is the world’s largest celebration in support of the environmental movement. Today more than a billion people in 193 countries take action on Earth Day each year. It is with great pride that CIUSSS West-Central Montreal is joining in for the first time.

Our CIUSSS’s goal is to minimize the negative environmental impact related to the delivery of its care and services. As part of our daily activities, we are committed to a process of continuous improvement in environmentally sustainable development.

For this reason, a major energy-efficiency project was initiated in August 2019 and will be completed this May. A total of 47 measures (lighting, boiler room operations, aerothermal technology, etc.) are and will be implemented in about ten of our CIUSSS’s facilities. They will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 49% and annual energy consumption by 39.3 million KWh—the approximate annual energy consumption of 1,637 homes.
