About Donald Berman

Donald Berman came from humble beginnings. Through great persistence and determination he grew an enterprise from a single souvenir stand at Expo 67 to a conglomerate of companies including amusement rides and games at La Ronde, a plush toy manufacturing facility in old Montreal and a successful import/export business. Generous to those struggling and less fortunate, Donald Berman supported many worthy causes during his lifetime.

Donald Berman had a special place in his heart for children and he took on their problems as if they were his own. In order to give them the opportunity to enjoy themselves and have fun, each summer he would take 2,000 kids from orphanages and poor families to La Ronde. On this day, he would lease 40 buses and treat the children to a day filled with rides, ice cream, sodas and gifts – something most of them had never experienced. The greatest reward for him was seeing the huge smiles on the children’s faces at the end of that day.

In recognition of this transformative gift provided by the Donald Berman Foundation, we have changed our name to Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre. These funds will allow us to provide “More Than Care” to our residents and improve and innovate our physical space.
